Celebrate International Women's Day in Your Primary Classroom
March 8th is more than a date — it's a chance to plant seeds of equality
In 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, children are already forming ideas about what they can be. International Women's Day gives us the perfect moment to talk about respect, fairness, courage, and inspiring women — not with lectures, but with stories, drawings, and simple conversations.
When a 6-year-old learns that a woman was the first person in space, or that a girl fought for her right to go to school, something clicks. They start to understand: everyone deserves the same opportunities.
What we do in class for March 8th
- Read a short story about why we celebrate March 8th
- Talk about jobs — "Can girls be scientists? Astronauts? Engineers?" (YES!)
- Draw and write about women who inspire us — moms, teachers, grandmas
- Color, discuss, and celebrate together
It's not about politics. It's about helping our youngest learners understand equality and respect from the very beginning.
